International Post Graduate Teacher Training Qualification


Graduates who meet the stated requirements below are eligible to apply. 


United Arab Emirates (predominantly Dubai)


Initial Teacher Training Programme (for post-graduates)


To Apply:

  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent (appropriate degree/subject approved by the Institute of Education)
  • English proficiency (e.g. IELTS Level 7)
  • GCSE (or High School equivalent) English, Mathematics (Science for Primary) – Grade C or above

For Interview (should the application be successful):

  • Prepare a portfolio of previous school / working with children experience (1000-1500w written report / portfolio) (Preferred, not mandatory)
  • GEMS skills tests (Maths, English and Science tests (Key Stage 3 UK curriculum level))


GEMS have partnered with two universities to be able to provide two parallel iPGCE programmes. Details of each programme detailed below.

University of Manchester (UoM)

The University of Manchester is a world leading University and has a rich and proud heritage dating back to 1824. It is also believed to have established the first university based teacher education programme in the United Kingdom. We are the birthplace of many important discoveries which have had a major impact on society including the development of the first modern computer, the splitting of the atom by Rutherford, the first degree in nursing, and the birth of modern economics and medical ethics. Twenty-five Nobel Laureates have worked or are currently working at the University. Our pioneering track record mirrors the proud heritage of our city, which was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, the suffragette movement and the worldwide cooperative movement.   The University has 25 Nobel Prize winners amongst our current and former staff and students and is a leading University in the Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Rankings of World Universities.

Institute of Education (IOE), University College London (UCL).

The IoE are one of the world's leading centres for education studies and related social sciences.
Founded in 1902, as a teacher training college in London, the IOE is now a world-class research and teaching institution. Their distinguished history and current mission are rooted in a commitment to social justice.


There are 2 possible routes to choose from:

  • 1 year iPGCE (International Post Graduate Certificate of Education) / GEMS iSCITT (International School Centred Initial Teacher Training)

- In partnership with the University of Manchester (UoM)
- Focus on the Global Curriculum
- School centred placements in at least two different schools of differing curriculums (e.g. UK curriculum, International Baccalaureate (IB), American Curriculum, Indian Curriculum).
- 60 Masters Credits (4 x 3000 word assignments)
- Development of portfolio referenced to GEMS Global Teaching Standards

  • 1 year iPGCE (International Post Graduate Certificate of Education)

- In partnership with Institute of Education (IOE), University College London (UCL)
- Focus on UK curriculum
- School placements in at least two GEMS UK curriculum schools
- 60 Masters Credits (2 x 5000 word assignments)
- Development of portfolio referenced to UK based Teaching Standards

Key features of both programmes:

  • Phased teacher development of the GT (Graduate Teacher)
  • Practical and Theoretical Structure
  • Practical: Full time school based placement (2-3 different schools per year)
  • Theoretical: Network based hub for programme delivery, professional development (PD), collaboration and support.
  • Thematic approach to weekly PD
  • University tutor support for the completion of assignments


AED 37,000 per year (this can be paid in 1, 3 or 6 instalments over the year).

  • Candidate must have their own UAE visa to conduct this programme.
  • The programme is full time school placement (07:00-16:30 daily – (variable depending on placement school), therefore it is unlikely you will not be able to work another job.
  • There is no salary provided for the year of the iPGCE.
  • You will need to fund your own living costs.

  • You will be invited for interview in due course should your application be successful
  • Prepare your school experience (working with children) portfolio of evidence in advance of the interview
